We are on our way home from a Cub Scouts den meeting, the two boys in back of the car illuminated by a shared Gameboy screen (Star Wars Legos), and myself tapping the wheel to the new Bob Dylan album, Modern Times. We turn past the liquor store and wait for another car to pass in front of the two-story house that now serves as a neighborhood music school. “When are we going to have our next piano lesson?” Evan asks, looking up for just a moment.

Graham and Evan completed the Dunn Elementary One-Mile Turkey Trot this afternoon, crossing the gate at 9:31.

As Graham, Evan, and I leave their after school care facility we pause to regard a new installation reminding us of the pogroms which occured across Germany and Austria November 9 (this week) 1938 known as Kristallnacht.
