Tidings to the tribe. Trash that’s trivial.

If a child is to keep alive his inborn sense of wonder, he needs the companionship of at least one adult who can share it, rediscovering with him the joy, excitement and mystery of the world we live in.

Turkey Trotters

Graham and Evan completed the Dunn Elementary One-Mile Turkey Trot this afternoon, crossing the gate at 9:31.

Their dad finished in 9:32.

Evan went out hard, but I followed Graham’s advice, “Slow and steady wins the race,” and hung back with Twin A.

We caught Evan at about the 1320 mark. He was walking and chatting with his friend, Jacob. He turned to us and said, “I just wanted to wait for you guys to catch up.” (Sure he did.) Then, he bolted.

Graham and I stuck with him.

As the boys rounded the corner into the school parking lot for the last 100 yards, a blonde guy in black tights and a Chicago Marathon cap was right on their heels, yelling, “Come on, Boys, kick it! Don’t let your old man beat ya.”

They sprinted in.

They finished strong, with smiles.
